How to Reach Hemkund Sahib?
Hemkund Sahib can be reached by trekking. Trek starts from Govind Ghat on Haridwar-Badrinath road. Distance from various places are:
Delhi to Govind Ghat: 500 km (via Haridwar)
Haridwar to Govind Ghat: 300 km (via Karnaprayag)
Rishikesh to Govind Ghat: 270 km (via Karnaprayag)
Dehradun to Govind Ghat: 310 km (via Rishikesh)
Nainital to Govind Ghat: 290 km (via Ranikhet)
Chandigarh to Govind Ghat: 480 km (via Dehradun)
Amritsar to Govind Ghat: 700 km (via Dehradun)
Lucknow to Govind Ghat: 650 km (via Bareilly, Haldwani)
You can drive your vehicle or take taxi from Delhi, Haridwar or any city you prefer. Road is OK, but widening of road is going on the hilly section. You may find slush and diversions at many places.
How to Reach Hemkund Sahib/Govind Ghat by Public Transport?
It is very easy to reach Govind Ghat by public transport. First of all, reach Haridwar or Rishikesh by train or by bus. There are plenty of buses on Delhi-Rishikesh route.
Now in the morning take any Badrinath bound bus from Haridwar or Rishikesh and get down at Govind Ghat. Bus takes about 12 hours to cover this distance. Night driving is not allowed in hills of Uttarakhand, so all buses depart from Haridwar/Rishikesh in the early morning.

Govind Ghat to Hemkund Sahib trek:
There is a road from Govind Ghat to Pulna (4 km). No public transport is available on this stretch, so you will have to take taxi from Govind Ghat or cover this distance by foot. After 10 km steep treking, you will reach Ghangharia.
Pulna (2100m) to Ghangharia (3100m): 10 km trek
Ghangharia (3100m) to Hemkund Sahib (4200m): 6 km trek
Next day, trek to Hemkund Sahib. Trek is well maintained and very steep. It is mandatory to return to Ghangharia as night-stay at Hemkund Sahib isn’t allowed.
Where to Stay in Hemkund Sahib/Ghangharia?
There are many good hotels in Ghangharia. Stay will be very comfortable and food will be delicious. A Gurudwara is also at Ghangharia where you can stay for free.
Night stay is not permitted at Hemkund Sahib.
Best Time to go Hemkund Sahib:
Best time is JUne to October, but if you want to cover Valley of Flowers also, you must go between July last week and mid August.

Day-1: Haridwar to Govind Ghat by road (300 km)
Day-2: Govind Ghat to Ghangharia (4 km by road, 10 km trek)
Day-3: Ghangharia to Valley of Flowers and back (minimum 3+3 km trek)
Day-4: Ghangharia to Hemkund Sahib and back (6+6 km trek)
Day-5: Ghangharia to Govind Ghat and drive to Haridwar
- The best time for Hemkund Sahib is in monsoon, so you must consider rains. If there is any high alert, never go there.
- Always carry good raincot and woolen clothes. Temperature may be zero in bad weather.
- There may not be madical or rescue facility on the trek.
- Though it is not necessary, but recommended to take a porter with you. He will carry your luggage and will help if stranded.
