Itinerary
- Day 01: Kochi to Munnar (125 km)
Cab will pick you up from Kochi airport or Ernakulam railway station and transfer to Munnar. Munnar is situated at 1600 meter above sea level. This majestic hill station was once the summer resort of the British government in South India. On the way enjoy some waterfalls and natural scenic spots. On arrival at Munnar, check in to your hotel. You may visit Tea Museum, displays the history and evolution of the tea plantations in Munnar.
- Day 02: Munnar Local Sightseeing
After breakfast, start your day with a visit to the Eravikulam National Park, home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr. The park offers a chance to see these rare animals and enjoy the rolling hills and grasslands. Then head back to Munnar town for lunch. There are several restaurants offering local Kerala cuisine. Saravana Bhavan and Sree Mahaveer Restaurant are popular for Pure Veg Meal. After lunch, visit to the Mattupetty Dam. Enjoy the serene surroundings and take a boat ride on the dam’s reservoir. A short drive from Mattupetty Dam, Kundala Lake offers beautiful views and a chance to pedal boat or rowboat. The nearby Kundala Dam is also worth a visit. In the evening, if time permits, take a stroll through the local market in Munnar town. You can buy local spices, tea and handmade crafts as souvenirs. Back to hotel for overnight stay.
- Day 03: Munnar to Thekkady (100 km)
After breakfast, check out the hotel and start for Thekkady. On arrival check in to the hotel and take some rest. Then proceed for the sightseeing tour of Thekkady. The Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary – declared a Tiger Reserve in 1978 is one of the world’s most fascinating wild life reserves stretching to a total of 777 sq km. Boating in the Periyar lake is an activity much sought by tourists who visit Thekkady because wild animals can be spotted during the session. Online booking is recommended to avoid queues. Jeep safari is a fun optional activity to enjoy if you have an adventurous bone. The charges for a safari may approximately cost Rs.1500/- per person (extra). Visit the Spice Plantation in Thekkady, stroll around the captivating farm and discover various spices in different sections of the plantation. If time permits, witness the amazing work of art of Kathakali, one of the major classical dance form. Also get captivated by the ancient form of martial arts practiced in Kerala, the Kalaripattu, which is said to be the oldest and most scientific martial arts in the world. Night stay in Kumily/Thekkady.
- Day 04: Thekkady to Alleppey (140 km)
After breakfast, check out the hote and start for Alleppey. Check in to the hotel/homestay. After a short rest, enjoy a boating through the backwaters (at extra cost). Enjoy the serene surroundings as you sail through the backwaters, passing by lush paddy fields and coconut groves. Back to hotel for overnight stay.
- Day 05: Alleppey to Kovalam (160 km)
After breakfast, check out the property and start for Kovalam. On arrival at Kovalam, check in to your hotel. Kovalam is one of the prime beach destinations in India. The Kovalam beach is divided into three beaches; the Samudra beach, the Hawa beach and the Lighthouse beach. If time permits, visit Sagarika Marine Research Aquarium not far away from Kovalam and unravel the mysteries of the marine sea. Enjoy the evening watching a spectacular sunset or swimming at the picturesque Kovalam Beach. Night stay in Kovalam.
- Day 06: Kovalam to Kanyakumari (80 km)
After breakfast, check out the hotel and start for Kanyakumari. On arrival in Kanyakumari, check in to your hotel. After some rest, proceed for local sightseeing tour. Visit Vivekananda Rock Memorial. It was built in the memory of the great saint, Swamy Vivekananda, not only holy and spiritual, but also exhibits architectural excellence. Visit Devi Kanyakumari Temple, also known as Kumari Amman Temple is one of the most sacred temples in the world and ages more than 3000 years. Visit Triveni Sangamam, that is a sacred confluence of three water bodies: the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean. Enjoy the sunset in the evening. Back to hotel for overnight stay.
- Day 07: Kanyakumari to Rameshwaram (325 km)
After breakfast, check out the hotel and start for Rameswaram. On the way visit Pamban bridge. it was India’s first sea bridge and was the longest sea bridge in India until the opening of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in 2010. Check in to your hotel. Visit Agni Theertham, Ramanathaswamy Temple. This temple is one of India’s holiest shrine. Overnight stay in Rameswaram.
- Day 08: Rameshwaram to Madurai (175 km)
After breakfast, check out the hotel and start for Madurai. Check in to your hotel. Then proceed for a local sightseeing tour of Madurai. The temple town of Madurai, situated on the banks of river Vaigai, is one of the most ancient cities in India. It was the imperial capital of the Pandyan Empire in the 14th Century AD. Madurai was the seat of Tamil learning and the last of the Tamil Sangams (Academies) was held here nearly 2000 years ago. Main tourist attractions are Meenakshi Temple, Gandhi museum, Vandiyur amman temple and Thirumalai nayak Mahal. Night stay in Madurai.
- Day 09: Madurai Drop
After breakfast, check out the hotel. Cab will drop you at Madurai Airport / railway station.
